Market Intelligently!

My algorithm says that your girlfriend is a lesbian.

Ever imagined stopping on a traffic signal or in a parking lot and out of the blue all the digital billboards around you change their content displaying your most popular facebook photograph along with a latest cell phone which you recently wished or searched for on the web. Right now you may take it as fiction but our technologies are capable of implementing it. Intelligent marketing is such a field whose speed of evolution is depending on the extent to which a service or product based company can predict about the future. In order to get to know about the chances of success of any product, companies have already infringed the limits of online privacy. Let me give you an example of my friend Aisha who spoke to me about a problem which she faces when she comes online on social networking sites. She mentioned to me that whenever she logs in to her profile several kinds of adult advertisements appear on the side of her profile so she feels shy to even open her profile while she is with her friends because they will get to know what she surreptitiously searches for on the web.

We all are virtually naked on web. Is this fact vexing you? Well it will make you feel petrified the next time you search for something funny on google unless you are logged out. But the positive side of this blatancy is valuable. Lot of your precious time gets saved from searching things which is now being done intelligently by your virtual counterpart. Ever imagined using layar app on your ipad and find out a restaurant next to your office but you get an immediate suggestion that it’s not good for you based on analysis of your taste, previous comments and suggestions about several restaurants you have been to and the odious comments which the focused restaurant received from previous customers. Yeah, our web is getting intelligent with every single click of yours.

Due to this democratizing process of online marketing, the thread of success of a product or service lies in the hand of every single online shopper. If the product or service is not good the thread will break and a catastrophic fall will be seen in the sales of the product no matter how much effort company puts in to re-market it. From my point of view let me mention that this success or failure is directly proportional to two simple things. First the product itself, second the way it is showcased online.

Here I can’t reveal how the product can be ameliorated because it’s not my focus right now but I will be talking about the way it’s presented online, which can easily create a huge future consumer market anywhere around the world. Let me tell you about a small incident which occurred with my close friend Abhinav who wanted to buy an android phone online. He searched for many brands with desired specifications and every brand offered almost the same features and at same affordable price. But something amazing happened, when he opened a comparison page to compare among selected models a flash advertisement appeared. It was of one of the selected model which was showcasing its GPS feature, although every selected model had that feature, but it was actually mimicking the tracking of my friend’s house, his institute and his favorite hangout place in just 8 seconds of advertisement. He was so much excited that not only he bought the product but updated his status about the same. Targeting based on mining of data present online is the only way to get success in this age of tough competition to provide best products and services to the community even if the market is full of thousands of such best products from your competitors.

Let me wind up now with my last note that this article was neither focused for any customer relationship management team of a company nor it was for any person reading it from a customer’s perspective. Obfuscated? Well you won’t be able to surmise but these have been a few of random thoughts which came to my mind recently while I was trying to finalize my project for my last semester. Hope you enjoyed reading it. One thing I forgot to mention that finally I am also on the list of bloggers. I really don’t know how cool it will be in the future but do make sure that you let me know how you felt about it. And please don’t worry my intelligent algorithm won’t ever reveal that your girlfriend is a lesbian.
